DIY Watercolor Bookmarks Supplies
- Heavy white card-stock
- Watercolor paint palette
- White or light-colored crayon
- Yarn. You can use colored ribbons instead if you prefer
- Hole punch
- Scissors
DIY Watercolor Bookmarks Directions
Step 1
Begin by drawing a bunch of hearts across the width of a sheet of heavy white card stock paper. Draw the hearts in all different sizes, some overlapping.
A light peach-colored crayon is used for this tutorial for visibility on where the hearts are for painting purposes.
However, a white crayon works, too, and gives that surprise element.
Step 2
Begin painting over the hearts with different watercolors. Use 4 – 5 colors. Don’t let the paper get too wet though.
Once you’ve finished painting the paper, set it aside, and let it dry.
Step 3
Cut the sheet into 4 strips.
Those 4 strips will be slightly bigger than most would want for a bookmark, so just slightly trim to get a better size.
If you want to make exact dimensions, a standard bookmark measures 2 x 6 inches.
Step 4
Punch holes at the top of the bookmarks.
Step 5
Cut a strand of yarn. It will need to be long enough to double up into 2 loops, so 4 strands total through the hole.
Once the two loops are through the hole, bring the other ends of the yarn through the loops.
And gently tighten the strands to secure. You want them tight, but don’t rip through the paper.
Step 6
Trim the yarn evenly but not too short.
Your bookmarks are now ready for gifting. Such a sweet little DIY Valentine gift!
